Indian Startup Unveils Affordable Humanoid Robot

Hyderabad-based deep-tech startup RoboVeda Technologies officially announced the launch of its first humanoid robot prototype, the AV-1, on Tuesday. The device marks a significant step forward for India's robotics sector, aiming to reduce operational costs for local manufacturers. This announcement comes at a time when the Indian manufacturing sector is actively seeking automation solutions to meet growing demand.

The AV-1 stands at 1.6 meters tall and weighs 65 kilograms. Capable of lifting payloads up to 12 kilograms, the robot is designed for assembly lines and warehouse logistics. It features a dual-arm manipulation system powered by proprietary AI algorithms developed in-house. The system integrates computer vision for object recognition and navigation within dynamic factory environments.

Technical Specifications and Performance

Powered by a high-density lithium-polymer battery, the unit offers eight hours of continuous operation. The pricing is set at ₹25 lakhs per unit, significantly lower than international competitors which often exceed ₹1 crore. This pricing strategy positions the AV-1 as a viable solution for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) looking to automate repetitive tasks without heavy capital expenditure. The supply chain for critical components like actuators and sensors has been localized to ensure faster maintenance and support across Indian industrial clusters.

Market Impact and Future Roadmap

RobotWale.com spoke with CEO Arjun Das regarding the implications. He stated that the goal is to make automation accessible to SMEs across India. The company plans to roll out 50 units by the end of 2025. This launch aligns with the Government of India's Push for Atmanirbhar Robotics.

The startup received a grant from the Department of Science and Technology earlier this year. A pilot program has been initiated with an automotive component manufacturer in Pune, where the robots are expected to handle material handling tasks. Industry analysts suggest this development could accelerate the adoption rate of humanoid robots in the Indian market by 40% within the next two years. RoboVeda Technologies is currently seeking Series A funding to scale production.
