Agnikul Robotics Debuts Vayu-1 at Robotics Week India 2025

Bengaluru-based robotics startup Agnikul Robotics officially unveiled its first indigenous humanoid robot, Vayu-1, during the opening ceremony of Robotics Week India 2025 held at the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre on January 15, 2025. The launch marks a significant milestone in India's push for domestic humanoid manufacturing, positioning Vayu-1 as a direct competitor to global entries in the affordable automation sector.

Technical Specifications and Aggressive Pricing Strategy

Vayu-1 features a 28-degree-of-freedom architecture equipped with high-torque joint actuators and a suite of 3D LiDAR and tactile sensors for precise object manipulation. The robot stands 1.7 meters tall and can carry payloads up to 15 kilograms. Crucially for the Indian market, Agnikul has priced Vayu-1 at ₹14.5 lakhs (approximately $17,400) ex-showroom, a fraction of the cost of Western equivalents which often exceed $100,000. This pricing model is designed to lower the barrier to entry for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) looking to automate repetitive tasks.

Manufacturing Focus and Strategic Partnerships

During the expo, Agnikul demonstrated Vayu-1 performing complex assembly tasks, including screwdriving and component inspection, within a simulated automotive workshop environment. The company announced Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with three major Indian automotive component manufacturers to deploy Vayu-1 units in pilot production lines by Q3 2025. The robots will focus on high-precision welding assistance and quality control, addressing labor shortages in the skilled manufacturing segment.

Alignment with National Robotics Mission

The launch coincides with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology's (MeitY) renewed focus on the National Robotics Mission. Agnikul's CTO, Dr. Arjun Mehta, highlighted that Vayu-1's control software is fully developed in-house, ensuring data sovereignty and compliance with Indian regulatory standards. The startup also showcased its "Robot-as-a-Service" rental model, allowing businesses to lease the humanoid for ₹45,000 per month, further accelerating adoption across India's industrial belt.
