Unlike Western counterparts that often exceed one million dollars, the Veda-1 is engineered to be affordable for Indian small and medium enterprises (SMEs). It incorporates low-cost harmonic drives and proprietary sensors developed in-house by the IIT Bombay robotics lab. The system supports a payload of 10 kilograms, sufficient for assembly line tasks in the automotive and electronics sectors. The actuation system is designed to operate in varying Indian industrial temperatures without cooling overhead.

Market Pricing and Availability

Bharat Robotics announced a pre-order price of ₹25 lakhs (approximately $30,000) for the Veda-1. This pricing strategy aims to democratize automation in India's textile and automotive sectors. The robot is expected to be available for pilot deployment by Q4 2024, with mass production targeted for early 2025. The company plans to establish a dedicated assembly line in Pune to support the manufacturing scale.

Government and Industry Reaction

The initiative aligns closely with the Indian government's 'Make in India' initiative, focusing on advanced technology self-reliance. Industry experts suggest that bringing the cost down to ₹25 lakhs could accelerate the adoption of humanoid robots in Indian factories, where labor costs are rising but purchasing power for high-end automation remains a constraint for many manufacturers.
