India Robotics Expo 2024 Unveils Indigenous Humanoid Robot RoboIndra

Mumbai witnessed a significant milestone in the Indian robotics sector during the India Robotics & Automation Expo 2024 held this week. AeroBotics India, a Bengaluru-based deep-tech startup, officially unveiled its first indigenous humanoid robot, named RoboIndra. The launch took place on the expo floor at the Bombay Convention Centre, marking a shift from industrial automation to general-purpose humanoid applications.

Pricing and Availability

The company announced that RoboIndra will be priced at approximately 45 lakhs for the entry-level model. This pricing strategy aims to make humanoid robotics accessible to Indian manufacturing units and logistics firms. The first batch of 50 units is scheduled for delivery by Q2 2025. AeroBotics claims the robot is capable of handling repetitive tasks in warehouses and assisting in elderly care.

Technical Specifications

Standing at 1.7 meters tall, RoboIndra features a dual-arm manipulation system and advanced LLM integration for voice commands. It runs on a proprietary AI stack developed entirely within India. The robot supports navigation in dynamic environments, utilizing LiDAR and stereo vision sensors. The startup aims to compete with global giants by offering localized support and lower hardware costs.

Speaking at the launch event, CEO Aravind Mehta stated that the government's Make in India initiative played a crucial role in accelerating the development cycle. He emphasized that the robot is designed to operate in Indian weather conditions and traffic scenarios, which often differ from Western environments.

The expo also hosted panels discussing the regulatory framework for humanoid robots in India. Industry experts gathered to discuss safety protocols and liability issues surrounding autonomous machines in public spaces. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology representatives expressed interest in subsidizing such indigenous developments to boost the domestic manufacturing ecosystem.

This launch positions India as a potential competitor in the global humanoid robotics market. With the initial commercial rollout planned for the Mumbai and Delhi industrial corridors, AeroBotics India expects to create over 500 jobs in the next fiscal year. The event concluded with a demonstration of the robot performing complex assembly tasks, drawing applause from the attendees and potential investors.
