India Robotics Expo 2024 Unveils New Humanoid Prototypes in Bengaluru - RobotWale News
India Robotics Expo 2024 Concludes in Bengaluru
The third edition of the India Robotics Expo (IRE) 2024 concluded this week at the Bengaluru International Exhibition Centre (BIEC). The event hosted over 50 startups and international exhibitors, marking a significant milestone for India's growing automation sector. With a focus on humanoids and industrial automation, the expo attracted visitors from across South Asia.
Organizers reported a 40% increase in footfall compared to the previous year, highlighting the surging interest in robotics within the Indian market. The expo ran for three days, featuring workshops, panel discussions, and live demonstrations of autonomous mobile robots and collaborative arms. Over 10,000 industry professionals visited the venue to explore the latest technological advancements.
Aethos-1 Humanoid Robot Launch
Bengaluru-based startup TechNova Robotics unveiled its first commercial humanoid prototype, the Aethos-1. Designed specifically for the Indian manufacturing landscape, the robot features a lightweight design and advanced AI navigation suitable for logistics and assembly lines. The Aethos-1 stands 1.7 meters tall and weighs 75 kilograms.
Industry analysts note the affordability of the Aethos-1, priced at ₹12 lakhs, making it accessible for small and medium enterprises (SMEs). This pricing strategy positions it competitively against imported alternatives which often exceed ₹50 lakhs. The robot is expected to begin deliveries by Q3 2024.
Government officials from the Ministry of Heavy Industries attended the launch, signaling potential support for local robotics manufacturing under the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme. The presence of government representatives underscores the national priority placed on reducing dependency on imported automation technologies.
Other notable exhibitors included global firms showcasing AI-driven vision systems and local firms developing specialized grippers for food processing. The event also hosted a dedicated startup pitch session where three robotics firms secured seed funding totaling ₹5 crores.
Additionally, a MoU was signed between the expo organizers and the Indian Institute of Technology Madras to establish a research center for humanoid robotics.
Public tickets were priced at ₹500 for a day pass, while industry badges cost ₹2,500. The organizers announced plans for the next edition to be held in New Delhi, aiming to expand the event's reach to the national capital's manufacturing hub.
Rajesh Kumar, CEO of TechNova Robotics, stated, "The response at IRE 2024 validates our mission to democratize robotics in India. We aim to make automation affordable for every factory."
With the successful conclusion of IRE 2024, industry leaders anticipate a robust growth trajectory for the Indian robotics ecosystem. Future expos are expected to focus on healthcare robotics and AI integration for domestic applications.
