During the keynote address, Veda Robotics demonstrated the prototype performing complex pick-and-place tasks at high speed. Unlike traditional industrial arms, the Veda-1 is designed for unstructured environments, capable of interacting with human workers safely.

Technical Specifications and Pricing

The Veda-1 is designed specifically for the Indian industrial context, featuring a dual-arm configuration capable of handling delicate assembly tasks. Weighing approximately 60 kilograms, the robot is powered by a proprietary AI stack developed in-house. Veda Robotics claims the unit can operate for up to eight hours on a single charge. Priced at INR 45 lakhs (approximately $54,000 USD), the Veda-1 is positioned to be significantly more affordable than Western counterparts which often cost upwards of $150,000.

"Our goal was to democratize access to humanoid automation for Indian MSMEs," said Rajesh Kumar, CEO of Veda Robotics, during the press conference. "We are not just building a robot; we are building an ecosystem that supports local manufacturing and reduces dependency on foreign hardware."

The hardware is sourced primarily from Indian suppliers, with only critical actuators imported. This localization strategy is key to meeting the government's domestic content requirements. The software runs on a customized Linux-based operating system optimized for low-latency communication.

Market Impact and Future Roadmap

The announcement comes amidst a surge in government support for the robotics industry in India. The Union Ministry of Heavy Industries recently announced a Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme specifically targeting robotics and automation startups. Veda Robotics has already secured seed funding from prominent Indian venture capital firms and is in talks with major automobile manufacturers for pilot deployments.

Industry analysts suggest this launch could trigger a wave of innovation among other Indian startups. With the labor shortage in the manufacturing sector growing, affordable humanoid robots are expected to become a priority for factory owners in states like Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra. Veda Robotics expects to deliver the first 50 units to pilot clients by the end of the year.

The company plans to begin mass production by Q3 2025. They have also announced a training academy to upskill Indian engineers in robotic maintenance and programming.
