Vikram Robotics Launches Cost-Effective Humanoid at India Robotics Expo 2024 - RobotWale News

Bengaluru Hosts Major Robotics Showcase

The India Robotics Expo 2024 concluded today in Bengaluru, marking a significant milestone for the nation's automation sector. Held at the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre, the event gathered over 50 domestic and international robotics firms. Organized by the Indian Robotics Association, the expo aimed to bridge the gap between research and commercial application.

The exhibition floor featured over 200 booths, showcasing everything from agricultural drones to industrial arms. However, the spotlight firmly fell on humanoid robotics, reflecting the growing global interest in general-purpose machines. Thousands of visitors, including investors and manufacturing heads, attended the three-day event.

Meet the Vikram-1 Humanoid

Vikram Robotics, a Bengaluru-based deep-tech startup, took center stage with the launch of its humanoid robot, Vikram-1. Designed specifically for industrial applications within the Indian market, the robot stands at 160 centimeters and weighs 65 kilograms. The design prioritizes stability on uneven factory floors common in Indian industrial zones.

The unit features six degrees of freedom in its arms and a dual-camera navigation system. It is capable of performing repetitive tasks such as assembly line work and warehouse logistics. The company claims the robot can operate for eight hours on a single charge. It includes a proprietary AI model trained on Indian language commands and local manufacturing workflows.

Pricing and Market Relevance

Addressing the high cost of automation, Vikram Robotics announced a base price of ₹18 lakhs for the Vikram-1. This price point is significantly lower than international competitors, which often range between $50,000 to $100,000. The company aims to make robotics accessible to Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) across India.

Industry analysts suggest this pricing could accelerate the adoption of automation in India's textile and automotive sectors. The launch comes ahead of the government's PLI schemes for manufacturing, which offer subsidies for high-tech equipment. The reduced cost lowers the barrier to entry for local manufacturers looking to modernize.

Industry Response and Future Plans

During the panel discussions at the expo, Vikram Robotics CEO highlighted partnerships with major logistics companies. They plan to deploy 50 units by the end of the fiscal year. The company also introduced a subscription model for maintenance and software updates, reducing upfront operational costs.

Experts at the event noted that while the technology shows promise, regulatory frameworks for humanoid robots in public spaces remain a challenge. However, the focus on industrial safety at the expo has been well-received by safety compliance officers. Several international exhibitors expressed interest in collaborating with Indian startups to localize production further.

With the Vikram-1 launch, India Robotics Expo 2024 set a precedent for affordable humanoid robotics in South Asia. The event will continue to host workshops on AI integration and robotics ethics in the coming months, ensuring that the industry grows sustainably across the subcontinent.
