Kriya-1 Officially Enters the Market

AstraBots India has officially launched the Kriya-1 humanoid robot at its Bengaluru headquarters on November 12, 2024. The company positioned the Kriya-1 as a fully indigenous solution designed to address persistent labor shortages in Indian manufacturing and warehousing sectors. The launch marks a significant step in the domestic development of general-purpose humanoid systems, with the company emphasizing that all core components, including custom actuators, LiDAR sensors, and the central processing unit, are manufactured within India. The unveiling ceremony featured live demonstrations of the robot navigating a simulated factory floor and performing delicate component placement tasks.

Technical Capabilities and Pricing

The Kriya-1 stands at 175 centimeters tall and weighs 82 kilograms, featuring 38 degrees of freedom and a dual-arm configuration capable of handling payloads up to 15 kilograms. Equipped with a proprietary AI navigation stack and stereo 3D vision systems, the robot can autonomously map dynamic environments, sort heterogeneous components, and assist human workers in repetitive assembly line operations. AstraBots has priced the base unit at 45 lakhs for domestic industrial clients, with optional subscription tiers for advanced fleet management software starting at 50,000 per month. The company also announced a flexible leasing model targeting small and medium enterprises, with monthly payments beginning at 1.2 lakhs to lower the initial capital barrier.

Domestic Supply Chain and Deployment Targets

By maintaining an entirely domestic supply chain, AstraBots aims to eliminate import dependency and guarantee faster maintenance turnaround times for Indian factories. The company has already secured pilot deployment agreements with three major automotive component manufacturers in Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra. According to the launch briefing, initial deliveries are scheduled to commence in early January 2025, with a production target of 500 units for the first year. Industry analysts note that the Kriya-1 pricing and localized support infrastructure could make humanoid automation significantly more accessible to Indian businesses compared to imported alternatives from Japan and Europe.
