Bengaluru-based robotics startup AstraBots has officially unveiled its latest humanoid prototype, the InduBot X1, during the India Robotics Expo held this week. The launch represents a significant milestone for the domestic automation sector, aiming to address labor shortages in warehousing and logistics across India. The company, founded by alumni from the Indian Institutes of Technology, confirmed that the prototype is ready for pilot deployments in select industrial zones by Q1 2024.
Technical Specifications and Pricing
The InduBot X1 stands at 1.6 meters tall and is capable of lifting payloads up to 20 kilograms. Powered by a custom-designed lithium-ion battery pack, the robot offers a runtime of approximately six hours on a single charge. AstraBots has set the manufacturing cost significantly lower than international competitors, targeting a price point of ₹15 lakhs for the base model. This pricing strategy aims to make humanoid robotics accessible to small and medium enterprises (SMEs) that previously found automation too expensive.
The unit features advanced computer vision sensors for navigation and object recognition, allowing it to operate autonomously in dynamic warehouse environments. The software stack is compatible with existing enterprise resource planning systems, ensuring seamless integration for Indian manufacturers adopting Industry 4.0 standards.
Strategic Market Impact
Industry analysts note that the introduction of the InduBot X1 could reshape the manufacturing landscape in states like Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra. With the current labor shortage in manufacturing sectors, the robot offers a scalable solution for tasks involving repetitive lifting and material handling. AstraBots plans to establish a dedicated service and maintenance hub in Pune to support the growing fleet of deployed units.
CEO Rajesh Kumar stated in the launch press conference that the company is also exploring export opportunities to Southeast Asian markets where labor costs are rising. The prototype is currently undergoing safety certifications under the Bureau of Indian Standards to ensure compliance with workplace safety regulations. This development marks a key step in positioning India as a hub for affordable robotics innovation.
