The framework aims to establish a regulatory backbone for the burgeoning humanoid robotics industry in India, addressing critical concerns regarding public safety and data privacy. This move comes as global tech giants and Indian startups alike ramp up the introduction of autonomous humanoid units into logistics and service sectors across major metropolitan cities.

Key provisions in the draft mandate that all humanoid robots operating in public spaces must undergo a mandatory safety certification before commercial deployment. The guidelines specify technical requirements for emergency stop mechanisms, obstacle detection systems, and software transparency. Manufacturers are required to submit detailed technical documentation to the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) for approval. The policy emphasizes that failure to comply with these safety protocols will result in immediate bans on sales and operational licenses.
