Unitree G1 Humanoid Robot Enters Global Market, Ignites Indian Industry Interest - RobotWale News

Unitree Unveils G1 Humanoid Robot at $16,900 Price Point

On June 26, 2024, Chinese robotics company Unitree Robotics officially launched the G1 humanoid robot, marking a significant shift toward affordable bipedal automation. The G1 stands 1.27 meters tall, weighs 47 kilograms, and features 43 degrees of freedom with advanced torque-controlled joints. Priced at $16,900 for the developer edition and $29,900 for the standard version, the robot is positioned as the most cost-effective full-size humanoid platform on the market.

Indian Manufacturing and Research Sectors Take Note

The announcement has drawn immediate attention from India’s robotics ecosystem. Indian industrial automation firms, including startups in Bengaluru and Pune, have begun evaluating the G1 for warehouse logistics and assembly line tasks. Several Indian technical institutes, including IIT Madras and IIT Kanpur, have expressed interest in procuring units for robotics curriculum and research in dynamic balance control and reinforcement learning.

Domestic pricing for the G1 in India is expected to land between ₹14 lakh and ₹25 lakh depending on import duties, shipping, and local distributor margins. Industry analysts note that the affordability of the G1 could accelerate humanoid robot adoption in Indian SMEs, particularly in electronics manufacturing and automotive components, where labor shortages are increasingly common.

Technical Capabilities and Global Availability

The G1 is equipped with a custom-designed high-torque joint system, enabling walking speeds of up to 3.3 kilometers per hour and the ability to perform complex manipulation tasks. It runs on Unitree’s proprietary OS, which supports ROS2 compatibility and cloud-based fleet management. The robot can operate for approximately 2.5 hours on a single charge and supports autonomous navigation via integrated LiDAR and stereo vision.

Global distribution will begin in Q3 2024, with direct sales and authorized partners handling logistics. Unitree has confirmed that Indian customers can place pre-orders through its official website, with regional support to be established by early 2025. The launch underscores a broader industry trend of democratizing humanoid robotics, moving the technology from research labs to commercial deployment.
