Aether Dynamics Officially Launches Vayu-1 Humanoid Robot

Kolkata-based robotics startup Aether Dynamics has officially launched the Vayu-1, a fully functional humanoid robot designed for industrial automation and warehouse logistics. The company announced the commercial release on October 12, 2024, marking a significant step in India’s push toward domestic humanoid robotics manufacturing.

The Vayu-1 stands 1.7 meters tall and weighs 68 kilograms, equipped with a custom silicon-powered neural processing unit and 28 degrees of freedom across its limbs and torso. Unlike imported alternatives, the robot runs on an open-source Indian AI stack optimized for Hindi, English, and regional languages, enabling seamless voice-command integration in domestic factories. The system utilizes LiDAR and stereo vision arrays for real-time spatial mapping, allowing it to navigate crowded manufacturing floors without human intervention.

Priced at ₹45 lakhs for the base configuration, Aether Dynamics has structured tiered pricing to accommodate small and medium enterprises. The standard industrial package includes a 12-hour battery life, IP54-rated joints for dust resistance, and a modular end-effector system compatible with existing conveyor infrastructure. A fleet licensing model is also available for logistics parks in Gujarat and Tamil Nadu, with subscription tiers starting at ₹15,000 per robot per month for software updates and predictive maintenance.

The launch aligns with India’s National Robotics Mission, which has allocated ₹2,500 crores for indigenous humanoid development. Aether Dynamics plans to begin mass production at its new facility in Hosur, Karnataka, by Q2 2025. The company has already secured pilot contracts with three major automotive suppliers and two e-commerce fulfillment centers. Safety protocols include collision-detection algorithms compliant with ISO 13482 standards, ensuring safe human-robot collaboration in shared workspaces.

Industry analysts note that the Vayu-1’s localized manufacturing reduces dependency on foreign supply chains. With a target of deploying 500 units domestically by late 2025, Aether Dynamics aims to position India as a key hub for affordable, AI-driven humanoid robotics. The company will also release developer SDKs in November to encourage academic and startup innovation across Indian engineering colleges.
