Agni Robotics Unveils Vayu Humanoid Platform for Indian Manufacturing - RobotWale News
Indigenous Humanoid Platform Targets Indian Industrial Automation
Bengaluru-based robotics startup Agni Robotics officially unveiled the Vayu humanoid platform on October 24, 2024, marking a significant milestone in India’s domestic robotics sector. The Vayu is designed specifically for factory automation, warehouse logistics, and hazardous material handling, with a focus on reducing dependency on imported robotic systems.
Technical Specifications and Indian Manufacturing Focus
The Vayu stands at 1.7 meters tall and weighs 85 kilograms, featuring a dual-arm configuration with 14 degrees of freedom per limb. Powered by a custom silicon chip developed in partnership with the National Centre for Semiconductor Fabrication in Mumbai, the robot runs on an open-source ROS 2 framework optimized for Indian factory floor conditions. The robot’s sensor suite integrates LiDAR, depth cameras, and tactile feedback gloves calibrated for high-temperature manufacturing environments common across Indian industrial corridors. Agni Robotics claims the platform can carry payloads up to 20 kilograms and operate continuously for eight hours on a single charge.
Pricing and Market Availability
Aligning with the Indian government’s Make in India initiative, Agni Robotics has priced the Vayu at ₹12.5 lakh for the base configuration, with enterprise editions starting at ₹28 lakh. The company has secured pre-orders from three major automotive component manufacturers in Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra, with initial deliveries scheduled for Q2 2025. Factory integration typically requires a two-week onboarding period, with remote diagnostics available through the company’s Bengaluru operations center. Agni Robotics plans to establish a dedicated assembly line in Chennai to meet domestic demand and support the PLI scheme for advanced hardware.
Industry Impact and Future Roadmap
The launch positions India among a select group of nations developing cost-effective humanoid robots tailored for local industrial ecosystems. Industry analysts note that the Vayu’s pricing strategy could disrupt the current market, where equivalent imported models typically exceed ₹1.2 crore. Agni Robotics has also announced a research partnership with IIT Madras to develop adaptive learning algorithms for unstructured Indian work environments. The company intends to expand its product line with agricultural and healthcare variants by 2026. Agni Robotics closed a ₹180 crore Series B funding round led by Blume Ventures and the Government of India’s DPIIT grant program. The capital will be allocated to scaling production capacity and expanding the domestic supply chain for precision reducers and harmonic drives. The company sources 70% of its components from Indian MSMEs, aligning with national import-substitution goals.
