AstraBots Secures $25 Million Series A to Scale Humanoid Robot Manufacturing in India - RobotWale News

Funding Round Closes

AstraBots Technologies, an Indian humanoid robotics startup headquartered in Bengaluru, announced on October 24, 2024, the successful closure of a $25 million Series A funding round. The capital raise was led by Sequoia Capital India, with participation from existing investors such as Blume Ventures and Tiger Global. This marks one of the largest funding rounds for a homegrown humanoid robotics company in South Asia. The funds will be deployed immediately to scale manufacturing operations, accelerate AI model training, and expand the company’s commercial deployment across India’s industrial and logistics sectors.

Product Launch and Pricing

Alongside the funding announcement, AstraBots unveiled its second-generation humanoid platform, the AB-2X. The robot features a 40-degree-of-freedom actuator system, advanced tactile sensors, and a proprietary vision-language-action model optimized for real-world industrial tasks. Unlike earlier prototypes that relied heavily on imported components, the AB-2X utilizes over 70 percent domestically sourced hardware, significantly reducing production costs. The company has set a commercial price point of ₹18 lakh per unit for domestic buyers, positioning it as a cost-effective alternative to European and Japanese counterparts that typically retail above ₹60 lakh. Early production batches are scheduled to roll out in Q1 2025, with pre-orders already accepted from select automotive and electronics manufacturers in Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra.

Market Expansion and Use Cases

The AB-2X is engineered specifically for high-repetition, hazardous, and precision-driven environments. Initial deployment scenarios include automated assembly line support, warehouse inventory management, and quality inspection in semiconductor fabs. AstraBots has already secured pilot agreements with three major Indian logistics firms to test the robot in last-mile sorting hubs. The company’s software stack supports multi-robot fleet management and integrates seamlessly with existing Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems widely used across Indian industries. By targeting price-sensitive markets, AstraBots aims to democratize humanoid automation and accelerate India’s transition toward Industry 4.0 standards.

Investor Backing and Future Roadmap

Sequoia Capital India partner Rohan Verma will join AstraBots’ board of directors following the close of the round. The startup plans to double its engineering workforce to 150 employees by December 2024 and establish a dedicated hardware validation lab in Pune. Management has confirmed that a Series B will be initiated in mid-2025 to fund international expansion into Southeast Asia and the Middle East. CEO Arjun Mehta stated that the company’s near-term priority is achieving a 99.2 percent operational uptime in live factory environments while maintaining strict adherence to India’s new robotics safety guidelines. With the fresh capital and proven hardware architecture, AstraBots is positioning itself as a key player in the global push for affordable, scalable humanoid automation.
