The robot stands 1.65 meters tall, weighs 62 kilograms, and supports a payload capacity of 15 kilograms. Its onboard AI module processes real-time sensor data to enable autonomous path planning, object recognition, and collaborative task execution alongside human workers.
Indian Market Positioning and Pricing
Aether Dynamics has positioned the Astra-1 to address the acute labor shortages and rising operational costs faced by Indian manufacturers. The company announced a base pricing of ₹18.5 lakhs (approximately $22,000 USD) for the standard configuration, with enterprise licensing and maintenance packages available at ₹2.5 lakhs annually. This pricing strategy places the Astra-1 at roughly one-third the cost of comparable Western humanoid platforms, making it accessible to small and medium enterprises across Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, and Maharashtra. Initial pilot deployments have been scheduled at three automotive component plants and two e-commerce fulfillment centers in the National Capital Region.
Domestic Supply Chain and Future Roadmap
To ensure long-term sustainability and rapid scaling, Aether Dynamics has localized 78 percent of the Astra-1 supply chain. Critical components, including custom gearboxes, lithium-ion battery packs, and structural aluminum frames, are manufactured in partnership with Tier-2 suppliers in Hosur and Pune. The company plans to achieve full domestic production by mid-2025, aligning with the Indian government’s PLI scheme for advanced hardware. Future iterations will integrate multi-modal language models for voice command interpretation and expand payload capacity to 25 kilograms. Industry analysts note that this launch could accelerate the adoption of bipedal automation across India’s manufacturing sector, provided regulatory frameworks for workplace deployment continue to evolve.
