Figure AI and Reliance Industries Partner to Deploy Humanoid Robots in Indian Warehouses - RobotWale News
Strategic Partnership Announced
On October 12, 2024, Figure AI and Reliance Industries formally announced a collaboration to integrate humanoid robots into India’s supply chain infrastructure. The partnership will initially deploy the Figure 01 platform across three Reliance Logistics warehouses in Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu. The rollout aims to automate heavy lifting, inventory sorting, and last-mile distribution tasks in high-volume e-commerce facilities.
Localized Pricing and Manufacturing Plans
Reliance Industries disclosed that the humanoid units will be priced at ₹65 lakh per robot for the Indian market, making them accessible to domestic logistics operators. The company confirmed plans to assemble the robots locally in partnership with Indian manufacturing partners by Q3 2025, which will reduce import dependencies and lower maintenance costs. Software updates will be managed through a dedicated Indian data center to comply with local data sovereignty regulations.
Technical Specifications and AI Capabilities
The Figure 01 platform features a 40-degree-of-freedom actuator system, 12 hours of operational battery life, and a vision-language-action model optimized for warehouse environments. The robots can navigate complex facilities, handle packages up to 25 kilograms, and communicate with existing warehouse management systems via standard APIs. Reliance engineers will work alongside Figure AI developers to fine-tune the AI models for monsoon-resistant outdoor loading docks and high-temperature indoor storage units.
Industry Impact and Expansion Timeline
India’s logistics sector, valued at over $380 billion, has been actively seeking automation solutions to address labor shortages and rising operational costs. This deployment marks the first large-scale introduction of humanoid robots in the country’s commercial sector. The initial phase will run through December 2024, with performance metrics shared publicly. Reliance plans to expand the fleet to 50 units across India by mid-2025, with additional deployments targeted for automotive and pharmaceutical supply chains. The announcement follows months of technical trials and regulatory approvals from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.
