India Robotics Expo 2024 Showcases Emerging Humanoid Workforce in Bengaluru - RobotWale News
Bengaluru Hub Highlights Humanoid Advancements
The India Robotics Expo 2024 concluded this week at the Bangalore International Centre, marking a significant milestone for the nation’s automation sector. Over 50 exhibitors showcased the latest in humanoid robotics, manufacturing automation, and AI-driven systems. The event attracted over 10,000 visitors, including senior government officials, venture capitalists, and industry leaders from the automotive and logistics sectors.
Domestic Innovation Takes Center Stage
Leading the charge was Veda Robotics, a Bengaluru-based startup that unveiled its new humanoid platform, the Astra-1. Designed for industrial logistics and light assembly, the robot features a 50% increase in payload capacity compared to previous models, capable of lifting up to 20 kilograms. The device is priced at approximately ₹14.5 lakh for pilot programs, making it accessible for Indian SMEs looking to automate warehouse operations without heavy capital expenditure.
Industry analysts note that the pricing strategy positions the Astra-1 competitively against imported alternatives, which often exceed ₹25 lakh due to import duties and logistics costs. Veda Robotics plans to manufacture the core components in India, aligning with the government’s 'Make in India' initiative and reducing dependency on foreign supply chains. The robot’s battery life has been optimized for a standard eight-hour shift, addressing common uptime concerns in the local market.
Global Giants Attend Regional Showcase
International heavyweights such as Apptronik and a delegation from the United Technologies Corporation also participated. These firms highlighted their interest in India’s manufacturing growth potential. The expo facilitated over 200 B2B meetings, focusing on supply chain integration and localized support services. Several agreements were signed on the sidelines to establish regional training centers for robot maintenance and programming.
The event also featured a dedicated seminar on the regulatory framework for humanoid deployment in public spaces. Experts from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) addressed concerns regarding safety protocols and liability, paving the way for clearer guidelines in the coming fiscal year. This framework is expected to reduce compliance risks for companies deploying autonomous units in public infrastructure.
Looking Ahead for the Sector
With the successful conclusion of the expo, organizers have announced that the next event will be held in Pune in Q2 2025. The focus will shift towards healthcare robotics and elder care solutions, reflecting the demographic needs of the region. Retailers and manufacturers are expected to see a surge in orders following the demonstrations. The Expo Director stated that the event has successfully bridged the gap between R&D labs and commercial deployment in India.
