Pragati Robotics Unveils First Indigenous Humanoid Platform

Pragati Robotics, a Bangalore-based automation startup, officially unveiled its first fully indigenous humanoid robot, the Pragati-1, on November 12, 2024. The platform is engineered specifically for warehouse logistics, material handling, and last-mile delivery applications across India’s rapidly expanding e-commerce and manufacturing sectors. The launch marks a strategic shift toward localized humanoid robotics, addressing long-standing supply chain dependencies and high import costs.

Technical Architecture and Pricing

The Pragati-1 features a 28-degree-of-freedom articulated chassis, custom silicon-based motor drivers, and a proprietary vision-language-action model optimized for low-latency navigation in dynamic, unstructured environments. Powered by a 48V lithium-iron-phosphate battery pack, the robot delivers up to 6 hours of continuous operation and can lift payloads up to 20 kilograms. The base unit is priced at ₹38 lakh, with fleet licensing and annual maintenance packages available for enterprise clients. This pricing strategy directly targets India’s cost-sensitive automation market, which has historically relied on imported humanoid platforms retailing above ₹1.2 crore. Enterprise clients can opt for modular upgrades, including dual-arm manipulation kits and LiDAR-based mapping suites, which add ₹4.5 lakh to the base configuration.

Domestic Manufacturing and Supply Chain Integration

By developing core components domestically, Pragati Robotics aims to bypass import duties and reduce reliance on foreign supply chains. The company has secured pilot deployments with three major Indian logistics providers and is in active discussions with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) for production-linked incentives. Localized assembly will be housed at a new facility in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu, which will source actuators, harmonic drives, and sensor arrays from Indian MSME suppliers starting in Q1 2025. The engineering team spent 18 months refining the gait algorithms and joint torque controllers to ensure stability on uneven Indian warehouse flooring.

Industry Outlook and Expansion Plans

Pragati Robotics plans to begin serial production in Q2 2025, targeting an initial output of 500 units annually. Fleet management software will integrate with existing ERP systems used by Indian logistics giants, enabling real-time asset tracking and predictive maintenance scheduling. The startup has also partnered with IIT Madras to develop open-source simulation tools for Indian robotics developers, aiming to lower the barrier to entry for domestic AI training pipelines. Safety certifications under the Bureau of Indian Standards are currently in progress, with full commercial rollout expected by mid-2026. As global humanoid robotics investment accelerates, the Pragati-1 launch underscores India’s growing capability in cost-competitive, locally tailored AI and robotics hardware, positioning the country as a viable alternative to traditional Asian manufacturing hubs.
