Kriti Robotics Secures $15M Series A to Scale Affordable Humanoid Robots for Indian Industry - RobotWale News
Funding Round and Strategic Backers
Bangalore-based humanoid robotics startup Kriti Robotics announced the successful closure of a $15 million Series A funding round on October 24, 2024. The investment was led by Global Robotics Ventures, with participation from Indian angel investors and the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT). The capital will be deployed to scale manufacturing operations, refine locomotion algorithms, and expand the company’s engineering team from 45 to over 120 specialists by Q2 2025. This marks one of the largest early-stage funding rounds for an Indian humanoid robotics venture to date.
Product Development and India Focus
Kriti Robotics is developing the KR-1, a 1.6-meter-tall bipedal humanoid robot designed specifically for Indian small and medium enterprises. The platform features a custom-designed joint actuator system, a 25-hour operational battery life, and AI-driven navigation optimized for unstructured factory floors. Pricing is set at $9,500 per unit for bulk orders, positioning it as a highly accessible automation solution for cost-sensitive markets. The robot supports modular end-effectors for packaging, quality inspection, and material handling, with a payload capacity of 15 kilograms. Software capabilities include real-time environment mapping, voice command integration in regional Indian languages, and seamless ERP connectivity.
Industry Impact and Future Roadmap
The announcement arrives as Indian manufacturers accelerate automation adoption to address chronic labor shortages and rising operational costs. Kriti Robotics has partnered with three tier-2 automotive component suppliers in Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra to conduct pilot deployments starting December 2024. The company plans to establish a domestic assembly line in Chennai by mid-2025, aiming to reduce import dependency on high-precision actuators and LiDAR sensors. Industry analysts note that the funding positions Kriti Robotics to compete with global humanoid entrants by leveraging localized software development and subsidized manufacturing incentives under India’s PLI scheme for advanced hardware. The startup targets 500 units shipped by the end of 2025, with expansion plans into Southeast Asia and the Middle East following successful Indian field trials.
