Aetheria Robotics Debuts Aethos-1 Humanoid Robot

Pune-based Aetheria Robotics officially launched Aethos-1 on October 24, 2024, at the India Robotics Expo in Bengaluru. The 1.2-meter-tall bipedal robot is designed specifically for Indian manufacturing floors and warehouse logistics, featuring a dual-arm configuration, 360-degree LiDAR navigation, and a payload capacity of 15 kilograms per arm.

Indigenous Development and Pricing

Developed over 18 months with a team of 42 engineers, Aethos-1 runs on a custom Linux-based real-time operating system. The unit is priced at ₹18.5 lakhs, positioning it as a competitive alternative to imported humanoid systems that typically cost over ₹60 lakhs. Aetheria has secured pre-orders from three mid-sized automotive component manufacturers and two e-commerce fulfillment centers in Maharashtra and Karnataka.

Strategic Partnerships and Scaling

The company partnered with IIT Madras’s Robotics Research Lab to optimize gait algorithms for uneven factory flooring common in Indian industrial parks. Aetheria Robotics has also tied up with Tata Electronics for integration into next-generation electronics assembly lines. The startup raised ₹45 crores in Series A funding led by Blume Ventures and IFCU Capital to scale domestic production.

Impact on India’s Automation Landscape

India’s humanoid robotics market is projected to exceed $2.3 billion by 2030, driven by labor shortages in warehousing and repetitive manufacturing tasks. Aethos-1’s deployment of locally sourced actuators and vision sensors reduces dependency on Chinese and Japanese supply chains. The company plans to open a 20,000-square-foot assembly facility in Chennai by Q2 2025, creating over 300 engineering and technician roles.

Aetheria Robotics will begin site deployments in November 2024, with remote monitoring and fleet management software included in the base package. Industry analysts note that localized pricing and service support could accelerate humanoid adoption across India’s MSME sector.
