AstraBots Unveils India’s First Affordable Humanoid Robot for Industrial Deployment - RobotWale News
New Launch Targets Indian Manufacturing Sector
On October 24, 2024, Bangalore-based robotics startup AstraBots officially unveiled the Astra-1, a fully autonomous humanoid robot designed specifically for the Indian industrial and logistics markets. The launch took place at the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre during the India Robotics Expo 2024. The Astra-1 stands at 1.7 meters tall, weighs 68 kilograms, and features a modular drive system with locally sourced actuators and sensors.
Pricing and Domestic Supply Chain
The company announced a base price of Rs 12.5 lakh for the standard configuration, positioning it as one of the most cost-effective humanoid platforms in the region. AstraBots emphasized that over 70 percent of the robot’s components, including its custom silicon neural processing unit and battery modules, are manufactured within India. This localization strategy aims to reduce import dependency and keep maintenance costs low for domestic factories and warehouses.
AI Capabilities and Language Support
Operating on AstraBots’ proprietary Orion OS, the robot integrates a multimodal AI system trained on regional datasets. It supports real-time voice and text interaction in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, and English, enabling seamless deployment in diverse work environments. The platform includes computer vision modules for object recognition, adaptive gait algorithms for uneven factory floors, and a standardized USB-C tool interface for quick reconfiguration between assembly, sorting, and material-handling tasks.
Industry Partnerships and Deployment Timeline
AstraBots has secured initial deployment contracts with three mid-sized automotive component manufacturers in Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra. Pilot installations are scheduled to begin in November 2024, with full operational readiness expected by January 2025. The startup plans to open a second assembly facility in Pune to meet projected demand, targeting an annual production capacity of 500 units by mid-2025. Regulatory compliance with India’s robotics safety guidelines and Ministry of Electronics and IT certification standards has been completed ahead of schedule. The company also announced a Series B funding round of Rs 180 crore led by domestic institutional investors to scale component manufacturing and expand its AI training infrastructure.
