NxtGen Robotics Unveils Pragya-1 Humanoid for Indian Manufacturing Sector - RobotWale News
Pragya-1 Officially Enters the Indian Market
NxtGen Robotics, a Bengaluru-based automation startup, announced the commercial launch of the Pragya-1 humanoid robot on October 12, 2024. The unit is engineered specifically for Indian manufacturing and logistics workflows, featuring a 28-degree-of-freedom articulated body, dual-camera perception suite, and a custom torque-controlled joint system designed to operate in high-temperature warehouse environments. The launch follows a 14-month beta testing phase with domestic engineering firms and marks the first commercially available humanoid robot developed entirely within India. The unveiling took place at India Robotics Week, where the company demonstrated live manipulation tasks alongside automotive and electronics assembly partners.
Pricing and Domestic Supply Chain
Each Pragya-1 unit is priced at ₹85 lakh, positioning it as a cost-effective alternative to imported humanoid systems that typically exceed ₹1.5 crore. The company has secured supply chain agreements with local component manufacturers for high-torque actuators, silicon carbide tactile sensors, and modular lithium-polymer battery packs. This localization strategy aims to reduce import dependency, lower total cost of ownership, and streamline maintenance across Tier-2 and Tier-3 industrial hubs in India. NxtGen Robotics will also offer a leasing model at ₹1.2 lakh per month, enabling smaller enterprises to adopt humanoid automation without heavy capital expenditure. The pricing structure includes a three-year maintenance contract and remote diagnostic support.
Operational Capabilities and Deployment Roadmap
The robot operates on a modular AI stack that supports real-time object manipulation, autonomous navigation in unstructured spaces, and seamless integration with existing Warehouse Management Systems via standard REST APIs. Early pilot deployments have been confirmed with three mid-scale automotive component suppliers in Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra. The system can handle repetitive pick-and-place tasks, pallet stacking, and quality inspection cycles for up to eight hours on a single charge. NxtGen Robotics plans to scale production to 200 units annually by Q2 2025, with a dedicated service network spanning Delhi, Mumbai, and Chennai. Industry analysts note that the Pragya-1 launch could accelerate India’s push toward domestic robotics manufacturing under the government’s PLI scheme, with potential exports to Southeast Asian markets planned for 2026.
