Agentic Robotics Unveils Astra-1 Humanoid for Indian Industrial Workforce
Agentic Robotics India officially launched the Astra-1 general-purpose humanoid robot on October 24, 2024, at a facility in Chennai. The two-legged, 1.7-meter-tall system features 40 degrees of freedom, a 40-kilogram payload capacity, and an integrated vision-language model optimized for warehouse and assembly line tasks. The launch marks the first commercially available humanoid robot designed specifically for India’s manufacturing and logistics sectors.
Specifications and Local Manufacturing
The Astra-1 integrates custom-designed actuators, solid-state LiDAR, and a 12-core edge computing module developed in partnership with IIT Madras. The company confirmed that 85 percent of the unit’s components are sourced from Indian suppliers, with final assembly taking place at the Chennai plant. This local supply chain strategy directly impacts the robot’s pricing and maintenance structure.
Pricing and Market Positioning
Agentic Robotics India set the base price for the Astra-1 at ₹18.5 lakhs for domestic buyers, excluding GST and integration services. The pricing positions the unit as a cost-effective alternative to imported humanoid systems, which typically exceed ₹45 lakhs. The company also announced a leasing program starting at ₹1.2 lakhs per month for three years, targeting small and medium enterprises across Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, and Karnataka.
Deployment and Industry Partnerships
Initial deployments will begin in Q1 2025 with pilot programs at three automotive component suppliers and two e-commerce fulfillment centers. The robots will handle material transport, quality inspection, and palletizing tasks alongside human workers. Agentic Robotics has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Confederation of Indian Industry to standardize safety protocols and workforce training modules for humanoid integration in Indian factories.
Future Roadmap
Agentic Robotics plans to release the Astra-1 Pro variant in late 2025, featuring enhanced dexterity for delicate assembly operations and expanded multilingual voice command capabilities. The company intends to open a developer SDK by early 2026, allowing Indian startups to build specialized applications for agriculture, healthcare, and retail sectors.
