Bengaluru-Based AstraBots Unveils India’s First Cost-Effective Humanoid Robot for Industrial Use - RobotWale News
AstraBots Introduces the Astra-H1 Humanoid Platform
Bengaluru-based robotics startup AstraBots officially unveiled the Astra-H1 humanoid robot on October 24, 2024, positioning the machine as a cost-effective solution for Indian industrial automation. The company described the Astra-H1 as a fully autonomous, bipedal platform designed to navigate complex factory floors, manage material handling, and collaborate directly with human workers on assembly lines.
Technical Specifications and Pricing
Weighing 60 kilograms with a payload capacity of 15 kilograms, the Astra-H1 features 28 degrees of freedom across its limbs and torso, enabling agile movement and precise manipulation. The robot runs on AstraBots’ proprietary ROS 2-based navigation stack, integrated with custom vision transformers trained on diverse Indian manufacturing environments. The base model is priced at ₹45,00,000, with optional peripheral modules for advanced grip tools and thermal imaging adding to the total cost. This pricing strategy positions the Astra-H1 as one of the most affordable humanoid platforms available to domestic SMEs and large-scale manufacturers alike.
Domestic Manufacturing and Supply Chain Integration
AstraBots emphasized that 78 percent of the Astra-H1’s components, including custom actuators, lithium-ion battery packs, and structural aluminum frames, are manufactured within India. The company has partnered with three Tier-1 automotive suppliers in Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra to validate the robot’s performance under high-temperature and high-dust conditions typical of Indian industrial facilities. Early pilot deployments will begin in Q1 2025 at two automotive component plants and one electronics assembly hub in Karnataka.
Industry Impact and Future Roadmap
The launch addresses a critical gap in India’s automation landscape, where labor shortages in manufacturing and warehousing have accelerated demand for humanoid alternatives. Government incentives under the Production Linked Incentive scheme for advanced robotics have further enabled domestic R&D. AstraBots plans to release a lighter, service-oriented variant in late 2025, targeting healthcare and hospitality sectors. The company also announced a certification partnership with the Robotics Society of India to establish standardized safety protocols for humanoid deployment across Indian workplaces.
