Bharat Robotics Labs Unveils Arya-1 Humanoid Platform for Indian Manufacturing - RobotWale News

Launch Overview

Bharat Robotics Labs, a Bangalore-based robotics startup, officially unveiled its first commercially viable humanoid robot, the Arya-1, on November 12, 2024. The launch marks a significant milestone for India’s domestic humanoid robotics sector, as the company transitions from prototype development to serial manufacturing. The Arya-1 is engineered specifically for repetitive industrial tasks, warehouse logistics, and assembly line support across small and medium enterprises (MSMEs). The unveiling ceremony was attended by representatives from India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), who confirmed that the platform qualifies for existing production-linked incentive (PLI) schemes under the National Robotics Mission.

Technical Specifications and Pricing

The Arya-1 stands at 172 centimeters tall and weighs 68 kilograms when unladen. It utilizes a custom-designed hybrid actuator system that combines brushless DC motors with series elastic actuators to improve energy efficiency and joint longevity. The robot features a 32-bit embedded compute module running a modified ROS 2 middleware, enabling real-time navigation, object manipulation, and voice-command integration. Battery life is rated at eight hours of continuous operation on a single 48V lithium-polymer pack, with an optional hot-swap module extending operational windows to twelve hours. Bharat Robotics Labs has set the base unit price at ₹28 lakhs, with a subscription-based maintenance package available at ₹45,000 per month. The company also offers a developer SDK priced at ₹3.5 lakhs for third-party software integration.

India Market Focus

Domestic manufacturing automation remains a critical priority for Indian industrial policy, and the Arya-1 directly targets the gap between expensive imported humanoid platforms and traditional collaborative arms. The startup has secured initial orders from three automotive component suppliers in Tamil Nadu and two e-commerce fulfillment centers in Maharashtra. All core hardware, including the custom gearboxes and sensor arrays, is manufactured within India to comply with government procurement guidelines. Bharat Robotics Labs plans to establish a dedicated testing and certification facility in Pune by Q2 2025, aiming to support fleet management and over-the-air update distribution for Indian industrial clients. The company intends to export to Southeast Asian and Middle Eastern markets by late 2025, leveraging India’s growing robotics manufacturing ecosystem.
