The platform ships with pre-calibrated joint actuators, a modular skeletal chassis, and a ROS 2 Humble-based control architecture that supports real-time sensor fusion and reinforcement learning pipelines.

Technical Architecture and Research Capabilities

The OHRK chassis measures 1.65 meters in height and weighs 42 kilograms, utilizing distributed torque-controlled joints rated for 180 Nm peak output. Each unit integrates a centralized compute module featuring a dual-core ARM Cortex-A78 processor paired with a dedicated neural processing unit capable of 20 TOPS. The software suite includes open simulation environments compatible with Isaac Sim and MuJoCo, along with documented APIs for custom gait generation, balance control, and tactile feedback processing. Laboratories can deploy the system for applications ranging from fall recovery algorithms to adaptive grasping in unstructured environments.

Indian Academic Access and Subsidized Pricing

For Indian research institutions, the IHRA has established a dedicated distribution channel through IIT Madras and IIT Bombay. Academic labs in India can procure the base OHRK chassis at a subsidized rate of ₹14.5 lakhs, which includes two years of technical support and access to the centralized cloud simulation cluster. The Indian consortium will also host quarterly workshops on humanoid control systems and provide grant-matching programs for doctoral students utilizing the platform for locomotion and manipulation research. Manufacturing partners in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka have been contracted to assemble localized sensor modules, ensuring faster maintenance turnaround for domestic universities.

Lab Deployment and Industry Collaboration

The initial batch of 500 units will be distributed to qualifying research centers starting November 2024. Early adopters include the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems, the University of Tokyo’s Humanoid Robotics Lab, and several Indian institutes of national importance. Industry partners have committed to sponsoring hardware upgrades for labs demonstrating published breakthroughs in dynamic walking or dexterous manipulation. The IHRA has announced that all firmware, mechanical drawings, and control algorithms will remain under the MIT License, ensuring unrestricted academic and commercial derivative development.
