Kriya Robotics Secures $25M Series A to Launch India’s First Cost-Effective Industrial Humanoid - RobotWale News
Kriya Robotics Closes $25M Series A
Kriya Robotics, a Bengaluru-based humanoid automation startup, announced today the successful closure of a $25 million Series A funding round. The capital injection, led by Tiger Global Management with participation from existing investors including Blume Ventures and AngelList India, will accelerate the commercial rollout of its flagship K1 humanoid robot. The valuation reached $120 million post-money, reflecting strong institutional confidence in India’s physical AI sector.
K1 Humanoid Enters Mass Production
The K1 model, developed over 18 months by a team of former IIT Madras and IIT Bombay engineers, features a 40-degree-of-freedom actuator system, 12-hour battery life, and integrated vision-language navigation. Designed specifically for repetitive industrial tasks, the robot weighs 65 kilograms and stands 1.7 meters tall. Kriya has begun pilot deployments at three automotive assembly plants in Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra, with full production scaling expected by Q3 2024. The company has also secured ISO 13849 safety certification for factory floor integration.
Pricing and Indian Market Strategy
Addressing the historical premium on humanoid hardware, Kriya Robotics has set the K1 at ₹18 lakh per unit, making it one of the most competitively priced industrial humanoids in the region. The company will leverage India’s newly expanded Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for advanced robotics to offset component import duties. Local assembly will be handled through a joint manufacturing facility in Hosur, Karnataka, utilizing domestically sourced servo motors and AI inference modules developed in partnership with Bengaluru-based semiconductor design firms. Industry analysts note that this pricing strategy positions Kriya to capture significant market share in India’s $4.2 billion industrial automation sector, where labor shortages in discrete manufacturing continue to drive demand for autonomous physical AI solutions.
The startup plans to allocate 60 percent of the Series A proceeds toward supply chain localization, 25 percent toward global expansion in Southeast Asia and the Middle East, and 15 percent toward research and development for its next-generation K2 model, which will feature advanced dexterous manipulation capabilities. Kriya Robotics currently employs 140 personnel, with plans to double its workforce by year-end.
