On November 12, 2024, Bengaluru-based robotics startup Vajra Robotics officially launched the Arya-2 humanoid platform. The company positioned the unit as a purpose-built solution for India’s manufacturing and healthcare sectors, emphasizing domestic supply chains and cost-effective deployment. The launch follows a two-year development cycle funded by a combination of venture capital and government under the India Semiconductor Mission’s allied robotics grant.

Technical Specifications and Pricing

The Arya-2 stands at 1.65 meters and weighs 42 kilograms. It features a custom silicon motion controller, torque-controlled joints, and a dual-camera depth-sensing head. The base model is priced at ₹18.5 lakh, with enterprise configurations reaching ₹24 lakh. Vajra Robotics confirmed that the pricing includes a three-year maintenance package and on-site calibration support across major Indian industrial corridors.

Industry Applications and Deployment Strategy

Initial deployments will target automotive assembly lines in Tamil Nadu and Gujarat, where the robot will handle component sorting, quality inspection, and heavy lifting. In the healthcare segment, Arya-2 will assist in hospital logistics, including medication delivery and patient monitoring. The company has partnered with three Indian engineering colleges to develop localized training modules for robot operators.

Regulatory and Market Context

The release aligns with the Indian government’s push for domestic robotics manufacturing under the Production Linked Incentive scheme. Industry analysts note that Arya-2’s price point places it significantly below imported alternatives, which typically exceed ₹60 lakh. Vajra Robotics plans to scale production at a new facility in Hosur, aiming for 500 units annually by 2026.

The company will host a live demonstration at the India Robotics and Automation Expo in Pune next month, where prospective industrial buyers can evaluate the platform’s performance in simulated factory environments.
