Nexa Robotics Secures Series A to Scale Indian-Made Humanoid Platform - RobotWale News

Series A Funding Round Closes

Nexa Robotics, a Bengaluru-based developer of bipedal humanoid robots, announced the closure of a $45 million Series A funding round on October 12, 2024. The round was led by Sequoia Capital India, with participation from existing investors Accel and Tiger Global. The capital will be allocated toward mass production scaling, advanced sensor integration, and expanding the company’s manufacturing footprint across Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. This investment marks the largest institutional funding round for a homegrown humanoid robotics venture in South Asia to date.

Domestic Manufacturing and Pricing Strategy

Alongside the funding announcement, Nexa Robotics unveiled the NX-1 humanoid platform, designed specifically for Indian industrial and logistics applications. The company emphasized a fully domestic supply chain, with over 70 percent of components sourced from Indian Tier-1 and Tier-2 manufacturers. The NX-1 will be priced at ₹18 lakh ($21,500), positioning it as a cost-effective alternative to imported Japanese and South Korean humanoid systems for SMEs and large-scale warehouses. The pricing structure includes a three-year maintenance package and modular software licensing for fleet management.

Product Capabilities and Market Focus

The NX-1 features a 28-degree-of-freedom actuator system, vision-based navigation, and a payload capacity of 20 kilograms. It is engineered to operate in unstructured environments, making it suitable for e-commerce fulfillment centers, automotive assembly lines, and healthcare logistics. Nexa plans to deploy pilot units across three major industrial corridors by Q1 2025, with full commercial rollout scheduled for mid-2025. The startup has already secured letters of intent from four domestic logistics firms and two automotive component manufacturers.

Industry Context and Future Roadmap

The funding comes amid a broader wave of capital inflow into India’s robotics sector, driven by government incentives under the Production Linked Incentive scheme and rising labor costs in manufacturing hubs. Nexa Robotics intends to use the new capital to establish a dedicated R&D center in Hyderabad and open a second assembly facility in Chennai. The company projects a production capacity of 500 units annually by the end of 2026, targeting both domestic deployment and exports to Southeast Asian markets. The team, led by former ISRO and Boston Dynamics engineers, plans to file additional patents for torque-controlled joint actuators and low-latency gait algorithms before year-end.
