Bengaluru-based robotics firm Aiva Robotics has officially launched Sahyadri-1, a fully indigenous humanoid robot designed for warehouse automation and light manufacturing. The company unveiled the platform on 12 November 2024 at its headquarters in Karnataka, marking a significant milestone in India’s push for domestic robotic manufacturing. Sahyadri-1 is engineered to navigate complex industrial environments, perform material handling tasks, and interface directly with existing Enterprise Resource Planning systems.

Technical Specifications and Pricing

The robot stands 1.65 meters tall and weighs 68 kilograms. It features a custom-designed torque-controlled actuator system, 3D depth-sensing cameras, and a dual-arm manipulator capable of 12 degrees of freedom per limb. Powered by a modular lithium-ion battery pack, Sahyadri-1 delivers up to six hours of continuous operation on a single charge. The platform runs on an open-source ROS 2 middleware, allowing Indian system integrators to develop custom applications without vendor lock-in. Priced at ₹18 lakh per unit, Sahyadri-1 positions itself as a cost-effective alternative to imported humanoid platforms, which typically range between $40,000 and $80,000.

Industry Impact and Future Roadmap

Aiva Robotics has secured pre-orders from three mid-sized logistics providers in Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu, with initial deployments scheduled for Q1 2025. The company also announced recognition under the MeitY startup scheme, which provides tax incentives and hardware import subsidies for indigenous automation projects. Industry analysts note that the launch aligns with India’s broader manufacturing expansion and the rising demand for semi-autonomous labor solutions.
